I knew it was time to go,
When the fog rolled in.
The sweetness of the salty air,
And the crashing surf muffled.
My mother was deathly afraid of the fog,
Perhaps a bad memory.
I found myself, as I often do,
Paddling out, past the break,
Floating, breathing in, hungry,
For the heavy wet air.
Lost of what world I was born,
The Pacific called for me again.

Behind Contemporary represents the ethnic diversity of Los Angeles. Los Angeles is a city of rich architectural history. Behind Contemporary serves as a reminder that these landmarks did not appear out of nowhere. These beautiful works of art are the product of labor sourced from traditionally marginalized segments of the population. The gorgeous exterior of the city is underpinned by a population wealthy in hard work and dedication. When we sanitize our landmarks unit they shine they only become a mirror reflecting ourselves.

Great art, especially sculpture, often has the appearance of simplicity, while being quite complex. This piece teases the mind, with the interplay of light, shadow and form. Ending with right-angles is both unexpected and satisfying. - Osceola Refetoff, Los Angeles.
